MS Muckfest 2013

On Saturday, May 25, 2013, a team of employees from TMK IPSCO’s plant in Koppel, Pennsylvania took part in MuckFest Pittsburgh, where approximately 1,300 participants, known as muckers, ran, slipped, slid, slogged, climbed, swam and sloshed their way through a five-mile course full of mucky pits and steel-constructed obstacles to raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The team won awards for the most team spirit and for raising the second highest amount in donations. Funds raised are used to fuel cutting-edge research and vital programs and services for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis.

"Our team, known as the Myelin Militia, decided to participate in this year’s MuckFest because our plant has a few employees, as well as additional employees with immediate family members, who are afflicted with this disease," said Lori McClain, Melt Shop Operations Clerk and Myelin Militia team captain. "By participating in this event and raising funds, we hope that research can continue so that a cure for multiple sclerosis can be found."

In support of the team’s efforts, TMK IPSCO also made a financial donation to the cause.

Andy Skinner, plant manager at Koppel, is hopeful that his team’s participation is just the start: "MuckFest MS events take place in a lot of cities all over the U.S. I hope others are encouraged to get involved in helping the cause."
